Have you ever looked on craigslist to buy an espresso machine, but ended up buying a coffee shop instead? That is the story of Brewpoint Coffee. In the summer of 2014, Melissa found a coffee shop on craigslist and within a month purchased it with her 6 month boyfriend. Now, Melissa & Angelo are married and have 3 coffee shops, a wholesale roastery, an event space, and a book launching this Fall called "How to start and run a coffee shop". Our mission is build a better world through coffee. That means building a business structure that empowers staff, empowers partnerships, and inspires the community to do good.

At Brewpoint we take the time to make sure we hire the right people who share our priority for community building and have a passion for good coffee and great customer service.

What is the role?
Full or part-time barista (minimum 20 hours) OR barista on management track (minimum 30 hours).

Brewpoint Team Member: Barista or Barista on Management Track

Position Summary

Barista’s are the primary customer face of Brewpoint Coffee. Barista’s are expected to provide courteous, knowledgeable and outstanding service to customers. Including expert consultation to customers regarding menu options and suggestions. Barista’s also make and serve drinks and food. Additionally, Barista’s clean and maintain both front of house and back of house spaces and provide support to other employees. Barista’s assist with various other tasks like cash handling, opening and closing the shop, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operations

Follow all applicable company policies and practices including dress code, health and safety requirement, etc.
Follows all company policies and protocols, both back of and front of house, including those for cash handling and safety
Maintains a clean and organized work space so fellow team members can locate resources and products quickly
Executes store operations during scheduled shifts, including cashiering, baristaing, cleaning, restocking, opening and closing duties, etc.
Ensures that store is clean, stocked and an inviting and welcoming environment for all guests
Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep store operating to standard
Occasionally completes other tasks assigned by store manager or shift manager
Offer relevant, thoughtful ideas and suggestions for improving operations

Product Quality

Prepare and serve coffee and tea beverages that adhere to the company’s freshness and quality standards, consistently holding the company’s recipe and presentation standards
Maintain coffee knowledge on current offerings and confidently and accurately communicate product information to customers and baristas
Educate customers and staff on all coffee, teas, pastries and other products

Customer Engagement

Ensure guests are warmly greeted, received and depart
Respond to questions, orders, and concerns with patience, confidence, and professionalism
Receive and handle guest complaints appropriately and effectively, striving to create a great experience for each guest, bringing in authority figures as necessary
Engage customers about their drink preferences and tailor suggestions accordingly
